Beginning students will learn the basics of throwing clay, centering, opening, pulling and shaping. They will be offered some project challenges and techniques to keep it interesting and fun! We begin each class with demonstrations and throwing techniques each week, and offer hands on assistance throughout the class. We begin each session with the basics of throwing bowls, then trimming and tooling, and follow with cylinder shapes. At the end of each session we instruct glazing applications.
Progressing students, continuing in to their second class series, will review the basic and be introduced to addition techniques and projects to advance their throwing skills. As their skills grow, they can continue on to Intermediate and Advancing classes, where the projects become more challenging and the students are offered a different wheel technique each week of class, covering a series of projects each session. The last 2 weeks of each session will be glazing.
You will enjoy taking classes in our lovely, state of the art studio. Don't put it off any longer...time to get started! Clay is our specialty, and you'll have a great class experience!
New students will purchase materials to get started: pottery tool kit is $17.95, along with a 25 lb bag of moist clay $15.
We
suggest that students bring an old towel to class, a few zip lock
storage bags for clay scraps, and a small box for tool storage such as a
cigar box, pencil box or tupperware.
When beginning the first session on the pottery wheel, you will make pieces such as bowls, small cylinder vases and mug shapes. As you continue with classes you will progress into more difficult and challenging forms. The wheel is relaxing, peaceful and lots of fun. It takes more time and patience, but is worth the rewards as you develop your wheel throwing skills.
